About Bloomfield

Plant-level knowledge is vital to meeting the food production needs of a growing global population. At Bloomfield, we help specialty crop growers—starting with grapes and blueberries—by automatically assessing plant health and performance using deep learning and imaging. Our portable Flash cameras and platform capture, geo-locate, and share the condition of each vine, tree, and bush, enabling growers to make informed decisions that improve yield quality and consistency without increasing resource usage.

About the Role

We are seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join our stream-aligned feature team. This team is responsible for delivering new product capabilities through 6-week Shape Up cycles, focusing on API design, data modeling, deployment, and observability. You will play a key role in designing, building, and deploying backend services that power Bloomfield’s platform.


Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement scalable APIs and backend services to support new product features.
  • Collaborate with frontend engineers on API design and data modeling to deliver customer-facing experiences.
  • Integrate with compute and data platforms to enable efficient processing of imagery and sensor data.
  • Deploy and monitor backend services, ensuring reliability and observability.
  • Contribute to the team’s technical growth, sharing knowledge and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in backend or infrastructure engineering.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience working with backend frameworks.
  • Experience with AWS services (e.g., ECS, S3, Lambda, Redshift).
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Understanding of containerization (Docker) and Linux environments.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TLS/HTTPS).


Bonus Points:

  • Experience with FastAPI and SQLAlchemy.
  • Familiarity with Go or JavaScript/TypeScript & React.
  • Experience with computer vision or machine learning infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of AgTech or precision agriculture.
